Mosquito exterminator - an overview of popular models and DIY manufacturing
If your country house is located near a reservoir, then a problem like mosquitoes is definitely familiar to you. They deliver a lot of inconvenience and interfere with both rest and work. And mosquito exterminator will help to eliminate such inconveniences. Such devices can be used both in an apartment and on the street. They have different cost and principle of action, on which their effectiveness and lesion area will depend.
Types of Shredders
All professional mosquito traps are powered by an electrical network. Some of them can destroy other flying insects, such as flies and midges. There are two main types of destroyers:
- equipped with an ultraviolet lamp;
- working on carbon dioxide.
But in addition to professional units, there are homemade ones that are quite possible to make at home.
Professional exterminators and traps
Among professional models for the destruction of mosquitoes, the following can be distinguished:
- WEITECH WK 8202 exterminator - a device with an ultraviolet lamp attracts insects with the light that is emitted by LEDs. Around the lamp is a metal mesh that is energized. Bloodsuckers fly into the light and die in contact with the grid from the effects of electric current. This compact device is designed to work indoors, it is ergonomic and has an aesthetic appearance, so it fits perfectly into any interior. To ensure its operation, it is sufficient to have an electrical network with a voltage of 220 V.
On a note! The advantages of the WEITECH WK 8202 device include an insignificant amount of energy consumed, as well as its absolute safety - it is not capable of harming human health or pets! When working does not create sounds, dust, smoke and odors!
- Travola EGS-11 Insect Killer - Suitable for indoor use with an area of 20 m2. More affordable compared to the first model. It is small in size and weighs only 180 g. It is approved for use both in apartments and in private houses. You can use this modern, inexpensive and safe device in your apartment, and if you are going to rest, take it with you. It does not take up much space in your bag, and light weight does not cause inconvenience.
- MOSQUITO TRAP MT 64 is a carbon trap for mosquitoes. It works according to the following principle: carbon dioxide attracts insects and they flock to it, believing that they have found a source of saturation. As soon as an insect approaches a certain distance, the device draws it in with a powerful fan. Inside the unit, a container is installed in which insects die.
Recommendation! As you use it, the container must be cleaned of dead insects - this is enough to do once a week!
- The MOSKITO KILLER system MKS 1025 is another street killer of carbon dioxide mosquitoes, but differs from the previous one by a much larger radius of destruction. It is highly effective in an area of 4000 m2. Powered by food-grade carbon dioxide. Installed in a certain area and with continuous operation, this unit is able to interrupt the breeding cycle of bloodsuckers. It has three operating modes: manual, automatic and night.
Important! Guaranteed to get rid of mosquitoes, but it is absolutely harmless to other insects. And this is very important and convenient for owners of apiaries and greenhouses!
The destruction of mosquitoes on the site using professional units has both positive and negative sides.
Pros will be as follows:
- if you use the exterminator indoors, then it can be disconnected from the network immediately after the cessation of the influx of insects from the outside;
- professional devices have a large radius of destruction;
- are completely harmless to humans and domestic animals, and some models and to other insects;
- the weakest point of UV traps is the lamp, but it can be found without problems in any hardware store and replaced;
- A wide range of products allows you to purchase a shredder for each specific situation.
On a note! For the street, a lantern-style installation is perfect, if we are talking about using the device indoors, you can find a convenient model that will not catch the eye and at the same time will perform an additional function, for example, the Travola EGS-11 trap described above can play the role of the nightlight!
The disadvantages include the following aspects:
- installations with a particularly large radius of action will have very large dimensions and, accordingly, they will require a lot of space;
- it is advisable to use traps with indoor baits with closed windows or with mosquito nets on them, because, otherwise, the smell will constantly attract new individuals;
- debris should be cleaned regularly on a regular basis.
Homemade Mosquito Traps
The main positive side of a self-made mosquito trap is its accessibility. However, at the same time, such devices are less effective than professional ones. But if you are a supporter of budget decisions, then it is quite possible to try one of the following options.
- Cut the plastic bottle into two parts. At the bottom, mix hot boiled water, sugar and yeast. Insert the top of the bottle into the bottom with the neck down. It is advisable to wrap the resulting trap with black tape or cloth, as it is believed that this color attracts mosquitoes. The bottle should be installed on the windowsill and changed its contents once a week.
- In second place is sticky lenka. With it, you can get rid of not only mosquitoes, but also other insects. From thick paper or cardboard, it is necessary to cut rectangles and make spirals out of them. Next, soak the finished tapes with a mixture of 60 ml of honey, 200 ml of vegetable oil and 300 g of rosin. We hang traps in the corners, trying not to touch them with our hands and clothes, since the finished impregnation practically does not wash and is poorly washed off from our hands.
There are several impregnation recipes for homemade adhesive tape and in addition to the above, you can do the following:
- rosin - 100 ml, turpentine 25 ml, castor oil - 50 ml, sugar syrup - 25 ml;
- pine resin - 150 ml, linseed oil - 75 ml, wax - 5 g, honey - 25 g;
- rosin - 200 ml, honey - 50 g, castor, vaseline or machine oil - 100 g, glycerin - 20 g.
Mixtures are prepared very simply. First you need to melt the rosin or resin, which is best done in a water bath, and then add all the other ingredients.The solution is applied to the paper in hot form.
The mosquito exterminator is a modern professional device that will make your stay more enjoyable and comfortable. Choosing a suitable model is quite simple - just decide where it will be located and what area it should work on.
