Tick Remedy: Reliable protection while camping

Mite

Ticks are dangerous in that they can carry various infections. When bitten, the causative agent enters the bloodstream and spreads rapidly throughout the body. Among the most dangerous diseases are encephalitis, tularemia, borreliosis and Lyme disease. Knowing the consequences of meeting these bloodsuckers, many deny themselves the pleasure of spending a weekend in nature. However, do not limit yourself - taking with you a reliable remedy for ticks, you can provide proper protection.

What are the remedies for ticks

Tools for combating harmful ticks can be:

  • acaricidal;
  • repellent;
  • combined;
  • folk.

On sale you can find drugs that will help cleanse your yard of ticks. They are available in liquid or granular form and are used to treat the territory adjacent to the house.

In addition, there are tick remedies designed to protect children. The concentration of the active substance in such formulations is adapted to the age of the babies, but their effectiveness does not decrease. However, the use of these drugs must be strictly according to the instructions. Otherwise, it can harm the health of the child.

Acaricides

Acaricides for ticks exhibit neuroparalytic activity. Penetrating the parasite into the body, the active substance paralyzes its nervous system, as a result of which the limbs become numb and after a while it is separated from the place of its entry.

Acaricides are produced in the form of solid dusts (crayons) and aerosols. The drug is applied to clothing when it is not on the body, they wait for the time specified in the instructions and only after they have completely dried put it on themselves. Such drugs provide reliable protection against bloodsucking parasites for two weeks.

Popular acaricides include:

  • Tsifoks;
  • "Tornado Antiklesh";
  • Permanon;
  • "Breeze";
  • "Gardex";
  • "Ram";
  • "Reftamid Taiga";
  • Pretix;
  • "Picnic Antiklesh."

On a note! When buying acaricide from ticks, pay attention to the active substance. Among others, permethrin is well established. As practice has shown, it pretty quickly kills parasites, and it works both against ticks, and against mosquitoes, spiders, etc.!

Repellents

To protect against ticks repellents may also be used. These funds are not able to destroy pests, but they are very effective in deterring them. Such preparations are allowed to be applied to exposed areas of the skin, including especially delicate ones, where mites usually appear - these are the areas under the knees, armpits and ankles.

Repellents applied to clothes work for 5-6 days, but they are not able to provide the same protection as acaricides. This group includes tools such as:

  • "DETA";
  • "Off-extreme";
  • "Biban";
  • "Reftamid-Maximum";
  • "Defi Taiga";
  • MEDILIS-ZIPER;
  • Moskitol.

When using repellent formulations, it is necessary to take into account the fact that with increased humidity, their duration is somewhat reduced, and some completely stop their work.

Baby repellents

If the mite spray used by an adult can be applied both to clothing and to the skin, then in the case of children, only clothing can be treated with the drug. Moreover, it is recommended to purchase a composition for protecting a child exclusively in pharmacies, otherwise, there is a rather high risk of buying a fake, which will only do harm.

Important! Tick repellents are allowed for use by children who are already three years old. For young kids, they will be too toxic!

For a child, you can use repellents such as:

  • Moskitol;
  • "Off";
  • "Deafi Taiga";
  • "Biban."

The selected product is applied to clothing and left until it is completely dry or hung on the balcony. At the expiration of the time specified in the instructions, it is put on the child. But always keep in mind that each drug has its own limited interval of action, so it is better to take the spray with you so that you can re-treat it afterwards. Plus, at high air temperatures the body can sweat, and its smell will attract ticks even more.

Combination drugs

Combined tick remedies combine insecticidal and repellent properties. They are universal and especially popular among those who prefer to lead an active lifestyle. It is believed that combined formulations are the most effective, as they repel parasites well, and when bloodsuckers get on the skin they have a paralytic effect. It is allowed to process with such means only clothes, but, despite this protection, they provide quite reliable.

Among the combined preparations for ticks, the following are especially popular:

  • "Kaput Mite";
  • Medilis Comfort;
  • "Gardex Extreme";
  • Moskitol (spray).

But as far as such drugs are effective, they are just as toxic. Therefore, the processing of clothes should be carried out with extreme caution, it is better to do this in the fresh air, for example, on the balcony. If in nature you need to reuse the combined preparation, then in this case the jacket and trousers should be laid out on the ground and only after applying the composition. So you protect yourself from the action of toxic substances.

In addition, always carefully read the instructions. For example, many insecticidal-acaricidal anti-tick agents can provide protection against bites for a couple of weeks, however, they can be repellent only for five days.

Important! If the composition of the selected product contains a substance called alfacipermetrin, then keep in mind that it can spoil synthetic materials, as well as plastic elements such as buckles, buttons, etc. Therefore, such preparations should only be applied to clothing made from natural fabrics!

And another important point - if the content of DETA (n, n-diethyltoluamide) in the preparation is below 30%, then it will not protect you from ticks. Such compounds are effective only against mosquitoes, flies and other small insects. For example, if Mostitol aerosol contains a small amount of the aforementioned substance, then it can protect you only from bites of the midges (small midges), while the spray of the same brand has about 50% DETA (n, n-diethyltoluamide) - it considered the best protection against ticks. As for the Gardex Extreme mite aerosol, only 27% of the working substance is present in its composition, but in addition to it, MGK-264 and MGK-326 are repellent enhancers.

Upon returning from a walk, the processed clothes should be folded into a plastic bag and stored until the next exit to the forest. And if the trip is scheduled for the coming weekend, sealed packaging will preserve the protective effect of the drug.

Folk remedies

To make an effective remedy for ticks is quite possible on their own. The main active ingredients in such preparations are usually extracts from plants. Thanks to the essential oils, they scare away bloodsuckers quite well and some are allowed to be used even for babies.

Important! Just before treating your child with homemade products, make sure that he is not allergic to the components!

Often, such plants as rosemary, mint, eucalyptus and cloves act as the basis of folk remedies. They have a fairly strong aroma, which repels various parasites, including ticks, well. Moreover, the essential oils of these herbs can be used in various combinations, which will enhance the protective properties of the composition.

  • Essential oils. A few drops of the selected oil are applied to vulnerable areas of the body and work on the edges of the garment. The protective layer must be renewed every two hours.
  • Clove oil with alcohol. In 200 ml of water we dilute 15 ml of clove oil and pour half a teaspoon of alcohol. Mix and pour the mixture into a spray can. We take it with us to nature and periodically apply on exposed skin and clothing.

    On a note! You can also handle pillows and blankets with this preparation, which is very convenient if you went on vacation with tents for a few days!

  • Tea tree oil. For 2/3 glasses of water, add a teaspoon of essential oil and mix. Apply the finished product to the skin before you go for a walk. In addition, it is advisable for them to process the clothes and take with them for re-processing after a couple of hours.
  • Apple vinegar. Natural vinegar must be applied to exposed areas of the skin and this tool will quite effectively scare away ticks with its smell. Apple cider vinegar can be used in another way. Mix 100 ml of vinegar with 400 ml of warm water and add a tablespoon of liquid soap. To increase the protective functions, a couple of drops of lavender oil can be added to the composition.

    Recommendation! If you have sensitive skin, then it is advisable to pour additional 30 ml of freshly squeezed aloe juice into this product!

  • Tar water. In 2 liters of water we breed 700 g of tar - it can be cedar, birch or pine. Stir the composition well and leave overnight at room temperature. In the morning, drain the excess water, pour the product into a glass container and close it tightly. Use as needed.

Household protection

In order to clean your yard of ticks, you can use the concentrate Medilis Zipper, based on cypermethrin. Processing should be carried out in the evening after sunset in dry, calm weather. You can spray the area during the day, but you can’t walk around this area for 8 hours after treatment.

On a note! In this case, the ready-made solution is quite possible to use for processing clothes. By applying it to the jacket, you will provide reliable protection against ticks for a period of about two weeks.

In addition to ticks, this drug will scare away:

  • mosquitoes;
  • horseflies;
  • fleas;
  • mosquitoes;
  • bedbugs;
  • midges.

Additional activities

Be that as it may, but the most effective way to protect yourself is to be careful. When walking or relaxing, the following rules must be observed:

  • A picnic is best organized on sandy areas with a minimal amount of vegetation. In this case, it is advisable to choose coniferous forests, since there are very few or no ticks at all. If the forest is deciduous or mixed, then try to settle down in a clearing well-lit by the sun, away from thickets of grass, shrubs and ponds.
  • Dress correctly. Clothing and shoes for a picnic should be closed. Shorts, T-shirts, sandals and slippers in this case will not work. If you plan on outdoor recreation, it is better to prepare a tracksuit, sneakers and always high socks for him. At the same time, it is desirable that the cuffs on the sleeves and legs fit tightly to the body.A headdress or a hood will not be superfluous.
  • Ticks are most often found on the head in children and on the feet of adults. In addition, areas with delicate skin are attractive to them. Therefore, it is these zones that need to be protected more reliably.
  • Going to nature, clothes should be processed in advance, and not at the picnic itself. At home, it is also necessary to apply a tick remedy to the hands and lower legs. At the same time, if you are going to swim in a river or lake, remember that after water procedures, the protective layer must be renewed.
  • If you wish, you can purchase a special protective suit - “encephalitis”, which can be found today on sale. This is a jumpsuit that has a pull-down cuff on the sleeves and legs. Some models are equipped with a special mesh for the face, which is attached to the hood. In this suit, you will be protected from tick attacks.
  • On vacation, it is necessary from time to time to inspect the body for the presence of bloodsuckers. The same procedure should be carried out at home. Perhaps some parasites have not yet had time to suck, and their timely detection will avoid a bite. After the inspection, it is advisable to take a shower, and to wash the clothes in automatic mode at high temperatures.

If at home you find a tick that has fallen from clothing, it should be crushed immediately. Only they do it not with their hands, but with some solid object. It is necessary to make sure that the bloodsucker is neutralized.

Advice! If you brought wildflowers from a walk, then you also need to inspect them and shake the bouquet several times over the bathtub!

In cases where it was not possible to protect oneself from a bite, it is advisable to seek help from a medical institution. If you have special tweezers for removing ticks, then you can use it yourself. Just do not try to get the parasite with your fingers - this way you risk tearing off only the body of the pest, while its head remains in the skin. In this case, it will be very difficult to remove the remaining parts.
