Fighting dangerous insects: an effective recipe for boric acid from wasps

Many site owners use traps to control stinging insects. Victims fall into them, attracted by a sweet and fragrant bait, and find themselves forever locked in a trap. If you use a prescription with boric acid from wasps, they will quickly die, after tasting the treat.

Boric acid as an insecticide

Boric acid is a substance in the form of a white powder. It is often used as cockroach insecticide and ants. It produces a toxic effect on flying insects, including wasps.

The use of boric acid from wasps has several advantages:

1. Availability. Problems with the purchase of powder will not arise. It is sold over the counter in every pharmacy. Boric acid is also found in hardware stores. It is produced in the form of a powder, usually packaged in small bags of 10 g. You can also purchase a solution of boric acid with a concentration of 3%.
2. Safety for humans and animals. Chemical insecticides, traditionally used in the fight against wasps and other insects, contain toxic substances. Therefore, working with them requires compliance with security measures and the use of personal protective equipment. Boric acid is much simpler. This substance was used by official medicine a couple of decades ago to treat wounds. Boric acid performs an antiseptic function: it kills pathogenic microorganisms, relieves inflammation, and prevents the formation of pus. Medical solutions for the disinfection of human tissues are prepared from this powder.
3. Efficiency. Boric acid has the property of penetrating through the integument that protects the body of the insect. Therefore, the wasp, in contact with its solution, is infected. Acid literally burns out her body from the inside and stops the body of the insect, which leads to its early death.

Therefore, boric acid has been used for several decades to control insects. To destroy wasps, it is used as an additive to baits placed in specially made or purchased traps.

Cooking bait

Boric acid is a poisonous component added to the trap to increase effectiveness. Without its use, a wasp caught in a trap will remain alive for some time, which complicates the cleaning of the trap. But for the insect to fly inside, it must be lured with a delicious liquid that exudes a pleasant aroma for it. For this, they usually use:

• honey solution: 1 spoon per glass of water;
• jam diluted in water (it is better if it is sour);
• light beer;
• fermented fruit compote;
• fruit or berry syrup.

You can also throw slices of spoiled fruit and fruit into the liquid. This will cause additional fermentation and, as a result, amplification of the odor attractive to wasps.

In a solution of boric acid, small pieces of meat can be moistened, and then laid out on the site.

To defeat more individuals, using boric acid against wasps, it is recommended not only to pour the bait into the inside of the trap, but also to lubricate the funnel or surface around the “entrance” into the trap with liquid.So more individuals will be attracted. And if some of the wasps “change their minds” to go into a trap, poisonous substance will still remain on their paws. The insect will die itself, and will infect it upon contact of its relatives.

Boric Acid Addition

To prepare a working solution with an insecticidal effect, you will need to dilute 10 g (1 sachet) in 1 liter of water. The powder is thoroughly mixed until its crystals are completely dissolved in water. The resulting liquid should be added approximately 1 tablespoon to each trap. Insects that fall into it will be paralyzed and will soon die.

It is not recommended to use a ready-made alcoholic solution of a substance sold in pharmacies with a concentration of 3% in small vials: a sharp smell of alcohol can scare away insects.

Boric acid will also help in the fight against wasps that built a nest in the ground. This is characteristic of the "earth" type of insects. To destroy them, a hole and soil around the nest are shed with a bucket of water with a volume of 10 l, in which 10 bags (or 100 g) of white powder are diluted, respectively.

A bit about traps

To use the bait with boric insecticide, you will need traps. Usually they are a primitive design with one or more holes for the entry of insects. To get out of the wasp trap is not strong due to the peculiarities of its behavior. Therefore, the trap is packed with numerous individuals per day.

There are two options: purchase a pre-made trap in a store or make one yourself. For making do-it-yourself use a plastic bottle. The upper part with a neck is cut off from it, which is turned over and inserted upside down. At the same time, a liquid bait with diluted powder is poured into the bottle. Wasps will fly through the neck and forever remain in the sweet liquid, killed by the insecticide. Holes are also made in the trap: for hanging and for spreading odor.

As the structure is filled, it is either cleaned or replaced with a new one. Inspect it at least once every 2 days.
