Preparations for cough: proven folk remedies and industrial solutions
Content:
Shashel is a bug that infects wood. Having appeared in the house, it most often settles in wooden walls, foundations, beams, sometimes it can be found in furniture and books. Most preferred is wood with a moisture content of at least 14%. But at the same time, the real pests are not adult individuals, namely larvae. They gnaw passages in the tree and fill them with their excrement. After some time, they spill out onto the floor and resemble wood dust.
Characteristic
On the territory of Russia, two types of cough are most often found: brownie and furniture. And at the same time, each of them poses a serious danger to home furniture and wooden structures of the house. The appearance of this pest will be evidenced by a special sound, similar to the ticking of a clock. Insects reproduce it during the mating period, striking their heads against wood.
On a note! This sound makes it easy to identify the nest of pests, but at the same time, the appearance of adult beetles suggests that their colony is quite numerous and voracious larvae have already managed to spoil a lot of wooden elements.
But in order to gain confidence in the fact that it’s just a cough that is wound up in your house, it is advisable to know what it looks like. The body of an adult insect is painted brown, has a cylindrical shape, convex, elongated.
Development
Development in an egg takes from one to four weeks, after which a larva emerges from it. She periodically sheds and at the end of the last phase of development, her body is about 4 mm long, 2-2.3 mm wide.
Sarcot larva begins to spoil the wood from the moment it leaves the egg. The starting point is where the egg was attached to a wooden surface. Gradually, the larva moves deeper, leaving narrow passages behind.
When saturated, the young cough goes to the surface and at the same time leaves behind a protective layer, the thickness of which is about 1 mm. Depending on the species, the life span of the larvae of these beetles can vary from two to three months to several years.
After a while, the larva leaves deep into the wood, where it pupates, and then an adult appears. In an adult cough, on the elytra, dotted grooves are clearly visible.
Disposal methods
Before you get rid of the shashel, you should identify its habitat. To do this, you need to inspect:
- all wooden furniture;
- floor coverings;
- wood parts of the foundation;
- beams and partitions.
Upholstered furniture in this case is no exception. Shashel can choose wooden frames and other parts made of solid timber. For this reason, the inspection should be carried out carefully, in some cases it will be useful to disassemble all the chairs and sofas.
Folk remedies
To begin with, we suggest you learn how to deal with cough with folk remedies.
- The first mixture is prepared as follows. In 10 liters of hot or well-warm water, add 250 g of sodium fluoride solution.Mix everything thoroughly, pour it into a household spray bottle and process all wooden surfaces and objects in the house.
- The second composition is based on calcareous turpentine. For 10 l of turpentine, add 300 g of creolin, 500 g of wax and 500 g of paraffin. The composition must be mixed until a homogeneous mass and grease the wood with it.
- The third mixture consists of 3 liters of turpentine and 1 liter of kerosene. We mix the components and use to process wooden objects.
Important! Turpentine and kerosene are able to quickly ignite, so when working with them, you must follow the safety rules. And so that their fumes do not lead to poisoning, use personal protective equipment!
Insecticidal and antiseptic preparations
Destruction of the shashel can be carried out using the industrial means described below.
"Antizhuk" - It is an antiseptic that works well against all pests that affect wooden surfaces. At the same time, this tool acts both on adults and on their larvae. Antizhuk can be further used for prophylaxis. It does not have high toxicity, and when used it preserves the integrity of decorative coatings.
"Antishaquelin" - This tool is designed to destroy all types of wood borers, including the cough. This drug is an organic solvent in which a solution of silicones is present. "Antishaquelin" is characterized by high penetration, and therefore it can be impregnated with both young and old wood. It is used for processing furniture, floor coverings, including parquet, as well as antiques and various wooden building elements.
On a note! The most effective "Antishavelin" is in those cases when it is injected into the holes made by insects using a syringe!
Drevotex - in the fight against cough, this drug often shows the best results. After treatment, the product continues to act against the pest for six months. Wood can be impregnated with them year-round, but the most favorable period is considered to be from mid-summer to mid-winter. To get rid of parasites, wooden objects should be processed several times with an interval of 3 months. The insecticide is injected with a syringe into the passages laid by the larvae, after which they are smeared with paraffin or petroleum jelly.
Lignofix - This antiseptic does not emit toxic substances, and therefore is absolutely safe for humans. It can only harm chitin-containing insects, which include cough. Penetrating into the body of parasites, active substances disrupt the flow of biological processes that are responsible for reproduction and development. After treatment, the drug does not decompose and continues to work for 10 years.
Empire 20 - Another fairly effective remedy for cough. It is easy to use and at the same time it is considered a reliable ally in the fight against domestic insects, even with a significant number of their colony. This insecticide is characterized by low toxicity to humans.
Advice! Whatever tool you choose, remember that to obtain a positive result, you should carefully conduct the treatment. In order for the product to be deeply absorbed into the wood, it must be applied 2-3 times with an interval of 2-3 days!
And in order not to rack one's brains over the question of how to deal with shashel in a wooden house, it is enough to remember the rules for operating elements and structures made of wood. First of all, at least once a year, inspect all the wooden parts of the structure and, if any damage is found, immediately treat them with protective coatings. Do not allow moisture to rise, as it often becomes the cause of the appearance of a shashel. When building a house, pay attention to the quality of the material: the wood must be new and cleaned from bark.
